Buy to let mortgages are specifically for properties that will be rented out to a third party. There are a few ways these mortgages differ from traditional mortgages:
- Interest rates are around 1 – 2% higher
- The minimum deposit required is higher (usually 15%)
Typically the rent must cover 125% of the monthly mortgage payment. For example, if the mortgage is £400 a month, then the rent must be at least £500.
